Rock Canyon Before/After School Guidelines

Dr. Karen Brock, Principal Angela Colton, After School Coordinator 435 East 2320 North Provo, UT 84604 (801) 374-4935 – Office

Our mission in the Before/After School Program at Rock Canyon Elementary is to provide a safe place for your student to participate in enrichment activities, explore new interests, and discover new skills and talents. Programs are available Monday–Thursday for students in K-6th grade. Before a student attends any classes, parents should read the After School Guidelines and fill out the Registration Form online.

Program Costs

There are no fees for before or after school classes.

Health/Safety

  • Illness: Students may not attend with symptoms such as fever over 100°, discolored nasal discharge, sore throat, undiagnosed rash, severe cold, diarrhea, inflamed or watery eyes, vomiting, or contagious illness.
  • Parents or emergency contacts will be called to pick up students with symptoms. Students may return after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
  • Parents will be notified in writing if their child has been exposed to a contagious illness.
  • Emergency medical attention: Staff will call 911 and then immediately contact parents. Parents are responsible for medical costs.
  • Students must follow the Provo School District Electronic Use Policy. Misuse may result in disciplinary action including suspension or expulsion.

Attendance

Attendance is important for safety and class experience. Regular attendance is expected. Parents will be notified if attendance becomes an issue, and students may be dismissed to allow others to participate.

Pick-Up Policy

  • Only authorized individuals listed on the registration form may pick up students.
  • Changes to pick-up must be communicated in advance. Phone calls are acceptable for last-minute changes.
  • Students leaving early must be signed out at the main office.
  • Students must be picked up within 10 minutes after the program ends.
  • Consistent late pick-ups (more than 3 times) may result in dismissal.
  • If parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached, students will be released to the local police or social services.
  • Staff are not allowed to give students rides home.

Discipline

Students are expected to follow:

  • Rock Canyon School Rules and Provo School District Safe School and Computer Use Policies.
  • Provo School District and Rock Canyon Elementary Dress Code Policies.
  • Respect for other students and teachers.
  • Stay with their program group.
  • Leave personal belongings in backpacks. The school is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.

Please discuss these guidelines with your student before they begin. If students do not follow the guidelines, the following steps will occur:

  1. First warning.
  2. Second warning – Student sits out for 5 minutes.
  3. Third warning – Student sits out for the rest of the day and parents are contacted.
  4. Further misbehavior results in a conference with the Program Coordinator, class instructor, parent/guardian, and student.

Parents/guardians may contact the Program Coordinator with questions or concerns at (801) 374-4935. Parents or students wishing to grieve disciplinary actions may do so in writing to Principal Dr. Brock within three days of the action. Continued misbehavior may result in removal from the program.
