We will be adding a Railroad Modeling class to our after school line up starting Monday, Feb. 13 for 4th-6th graders, 3:30-4:30 in the STEM Lab. A 6th grader in Mrs. Pancake’s class had the idea to do this as an after school class as a way to share his enthusiasm for his hobby of railroad modeling with his peers and schoolmates.
This class will be so much more than the name implies. In addition to hands-on modeling and creating of the set, we will be talking about different kinds of trains (electric, maglev, steam, bullet, subway, el, legos) to introduce a variety of topics such as art, safety, computer science, earth sciences, engineering (electrical, mechanical, environmental, robotics, imagineers (think Disney), civil). This will be a hands-on class for creative and collaborative learning. The model trains are fragile and expensive so we are only inviting upper grades to participate in the class.
