Rock Canyon Elementary School

Dear Rock Canyon families,

Thank you again to all who helped make Red Ribbon Week such a SUCCESS!  The Dunk Team was a HIGHLIGHT!

Thank you, Crossing Guards!

We are so grateful for the amazing Rock Canyon crossing guard team who brave rain, snow, and heat to keep our kids safe each day. A local parent has partnered with What’s Up Provo to create a way to show them appreciation. You can participate by voting for the Rock Canyon team in the Provo/Orem Crossing Guard Contest (the winning team wins $700!), contributing to a gift for our crossing guard team, or writing a thank you note to accompany the gift. Please note: this is not sponsored by the school or school district.

KINDNESS CHALLENGE/FOOD DRIVE

All students school-wide can join our school’s Kindness Challenge for the month of December! We will be holding our food drive until December 19th. Please donate non-perishable items. We are holding different school competitions and could use some volunteers to help with the counting and sorting-please contact Mrs. McKinney if you are able to help (alycejaynem@provo.edu)

KINDNESS CLUB & HOPE SQUAD

Our next Kindness Club meetings will be held on January 9, February 13, March 6, and April 10. NOTE: The club meeting location has changed to the CAFETERIA. Students will need to be picked up by 4:00 pm outside by the cafeteria doors, behind the school. Hope Squad student leaders will have their next meeting on December 12 during lunch, 12:15-1:00 pm. Hope Squad students will bring their home/school lunch to eat while meeting together to plan school-wide Kindness activities.

SCHOOL SAFETY

It’s important that every child feels like they belong and are safe at school. Please remind your students to talk to an adult if something is happening. For minor conflicts, students are encouraged to say stop and walk away to a different game (“STOP WALK TALK”) or do “RO SHAM BO” (rock paper scissors).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school or your student’s teacher if you have any concerns we can help you with. Any student or parent can report anonymous tips directly to the principal if they are aware of bullying or other safety concerns at our school. These tips can be sent 24-7 through the app or online https://safeut.med.utah.edu/.

FOOD, CLOTHING, AND RESOURCES

We have lots of resources for parents in need of food, backpacks, clothing, mental health, or coats for their students / financial assistance. Call contact the school or call Provo’s resource hotline 2-1-1 for more information. Please contact the school if your student could benefit from a donated weekend bag of food.

LIBRARY MESSAGES Overdue notices are sent out at the end of every month. Please check your emails and remember books need to be returned or renewed each week as books are on loan for one week.

ProvoREADS

We gave away books to our November Provo Reads recipients: Reece Taylor, Clark Warner, Ruby Dickson, and Sariah Johns.

Prizes will continue to be given in December when we complete the program for the year. Thanks to all who have participated!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

Our first practice battle will be the second week of December. Students have been eagerly reading. Books can be checked out from our library or found on SORA and the Provo Library.

BOOK FAIR

We had a very successful book fair. A big THANK YOU to the volunteers and library assistants who helped set up, assisted with sales, and packed up the fair: Kelly Smith, Katie King, Melissa Baird, McKenzie Drake, Liz Sanez, Amy Priddis, Amanda Haderlie, and Karina  Scoville; library assistants Catherine Grames and Sharilyn Wanlass. THANK YOU to all the families who supported the Book Fair!

Your friend in books, — Mrs. Meibos
